Mediterranean Awards

In 1996, the Fondazione Mediterraneo instituted the Mediterranean Awards (with various categories) that are granted every year to eminent personalities from the worlds of arts and culture, politics and science and social disciplines, whose actions have contributed to reducing tensions, breaking down cultural barriers and developing shared values in the Greater Mediterranean.

This Award is considered one of the most prestigious acknowledgements in the world.

Various events are associated with the Mediterranean Award, such as the “Euro-Mediterranean Concert for Dialogue Among Cultures” and the “Epiphany Concert” (organized by the Cultural Centre “Oltre il Chiostro” in collaboration with the Fondazione Mediterraneo. The latter event is broadcast by RaiUno and Rai International throughout the world every year on the morning of January 6th).

 

 

On March 14th 2003, in the presence of Mr. Walter Schwimmer, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, was held at Maison de la Méditerranée the ceremony for the award of the “Premio Mediterraneo 2003”.
The Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo with Accademia del Mediterraneo - Maison de la Méditerranée – in collaboration with Regione Campania – awarded the following Prizes in the different sections. The Mediterranean Award Art and Creativity has been delivered artist Carla Guido.

On March 14th 2003, in the presence of Mr. Walter Schwimmer, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, was held at Maison de la Méditerranée the ceremony for the award of the Mediterranean Award 2003.
The Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo with Accademia del Mediterraneo - Maison de la Méditerranée – in collaboration with Regione Campania – has awarded the Mediterranean Media Award to RAI weekly magazine – TG3 "Mediterraneo". The Director Giancarlo Licata received the Award.

Also for this 14th Edition the Mediterranean Laboratory Foundation has collaborated with Alpe Adria Cinema – Triestefilmfestival conferring the International Award Laboratorio Mediterraneo 2003 to the best short film "My Zivjom Na Kraju" by Belarusian director Viktor Asliuk. 
In addiction to the official section of the films in contest and the section "images", this year's edition also proposed a very interesting look on the Central-Asiatic cinema (directors Aktan Abdykalikov and Dareshan Omirbaev attended the event) and  the debut film by Andrzej Zulawski.

Also for this 13th Edition the Mediterranean Laboratory Foundation, as is the case since 1995, has collaborated with Alpe Adria Cinema – Triestefilmfestival conferring the International Award Laboratorio Mediterraneo 2002 to the best short film  "Int. Hôtel Nuit" by Swiss director Elena Hazanov.

This event can be considered – due to geographic position, choice and vocation – as an observatory of European changes; and its usual research on the cinema of the centre-eastern area is now accompanied by a research on an “elsewhere” other than what had been considered “elsewhere” by Europe until some years ago, after the second world war.

On January 4th 2002, at the Teatrino di Corte of the Royal Palace in Naples, took place the ceremony of the “Mediterranean Awards 2002”.
The Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, with the Mediterranean Academy – Maison de la Méditerranée – in collaboration with the Regione Campania, the Province of Benevento, the Municipality of Naples, Il Corriere della Sera, El Mundo, Il Denaro, la Rai, Il Centro Francescano di Cultura “Oltre il Chiostro”, the Landscape and Fine Arts Service of Naples and Province – assigned the Mediterranean Institutions Award 2002 to Antonio Bassolino, President of Regione Campania.

On January 4th 2002, at the Teatrino di Corte of the Royal Palace in Naples, was held the ceremony to award the “Premio Mediterraneo”.
The Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, with the Mediterranean Academy – Maison de la Méditerranée – in collaboration with the Regione Campania, the Province of Benevento, the Municipality of Naples, Il Corriere della Sera, El Mundo, Il Denaro, la Rai, Il Centro Francescano di Cultura “Oltre il Chiostro”, the Landscape and Fine Arts Service of Naples and Province – conferred acknowledgements in the relevant sections of the Award.

The Mediterranean Diplomacy Award  2002 was assigned the Italian Ambassador Paolo Pucci di Benisichi to Spain.

The Mediterranean Diplomacy Award  2002 was assigned the Ambassador of Egypt in Italy Nehad Abdel Latif.

The Mediterranean Award "Art and Creativity has been delivered to the Israelian singer and actor Moni Ovadia.
