Civil Society

Since 1994 Fondazione Mediterraneo acts as an active part in the Euro-Mediterranean Civil Society participating to Euro-Mediterranean Conferences and Euromed Civil Forums.

In particular, Fondazione Mediterraneo organized the Euromed Civil Forums in Barcelona (1995) and in Naples (1997 and 2003) and contributed to the establishment of the NGO Euromed Platform.

 

 

It was held in Brussels on "Southern Neighbourhood Civil Society Forum" organized by the European Commission in the framework of the Neighbourhood Policy devoted to the countries of the southern shore of the Mediterranean.
The commitment to involve Civil Society in the South Shore in the processes of governance - through a "Structured Dialogue" with the local authorities, regional and the European Union - is the result of the European Commissioner Stefan Fule, present in the work.
The Mediterranean Foundation, represented by the President Michele Capasso and Vice-President Caterina Arcidiacono, stressed the twenty-five years of commitment to the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue between Civil Society and, in particular, the Euromed Civil Forum II of Naples in 1997, with which the Foundation fact anticipated the "structured Dialogue" - the subject of today's meeting - then bringing together more than 2,000 representatives of civil society, local and national government and the European Union in order to give continuity to the "structured Dialogue".
The Foundation, during the working sessions in Brussels, has proposed experiment in Naples, at the headquarters of the "Maison de la Méditerranée", a "SCHOOL OF EDUCATION TO STRUCTURED DIALOGUE" for representatives of civil society, local institutions and national and the European Union.

It met in Brussels on the Board of Directors of the "Euromed NGO Platform", an organization created by the Euromed Civil Forum, and especially by that of Naples in 2003 organized by the Fondazione Mediterraneo.
The Foundation is sponsoring since 1989 Euromed Civil Society, was present at the meeting - as a member of the Board - with the President Michele Capasso and the Vice President Caterina Arcidiacono.
On this occasion it was agreed to check the "status" of the platform in the light of ongoing changes such as the crisis in Europe, the "Arab Springs", youth unemployment, migration, etc..

During the XIth Meeting of the Heads of the National Networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation, coordinated by executive director Andreu Claret, and witness statement was made by a Syrian citizen Salam Kawakibi who showed photos and artistic depictions of the massacres being committed, alerting us to the need to find a solution before it is too late.

The “2013 ANNA LINDH MEDITERRANEAN FORUM” will take place in Marseille from 4-7 April, the year in which this city is the “European Captial of Culture”. This will be a unique event allowing EuroMed Civil Society to exchange views on Intercultural Dialogue to rethink and relaunch cooperation.

The Forum will dedicate three spaces to Exchange and dialogue: the Medina, the Agora and the Intercultural Trade Fair. The Italian Network and in particular the Fondazione Mediterraneo and its President, Michele Capasso have offered their every possible collaboration given their 20 year experience in Civil Society Forums.

The Board of Governors of the “Euromed Non-Governmental Platform” met in Paris under the presidency of Abdelmaksoud Rachdi. The agenda discussed the future of the Platform in the light of events on the south shore of the Mediterranean and new partnership policies. Ms Caterina Arcidiacono, Board Member of the Platform, spoke on behalf of the Fondazione Mediterraneo. The Fondazione Mediterraneo, which  has advocated the role of civil society in the process of Euro-Mediterranean dialogue and cooperation since its establishment, laid down the basis for the founding of the Platform through the creation of the Barcelona and Naples Euromed Civil Forum (1995, 1997 and 2003).
