SUMMIT OF MEDITERRANEAN PUBLIC RADIO AND TELEVISION STATIONS (EBU)

A delegation of media representatives from the 181 countries of the “United States of the World” and the “Fondazione Mediterraneo” participated in the EBU summit on the theme “The Mediterranean: a meeting place”. Representatives from public radio and television stations in 18 countries were present, including Vatican Radio. Ample space was given to the theme of promoting peace and intercultural dialogue, which was appreciated by President Michele Capasso, who has spent the last 40 years of his life working on this issue, calling for the full involvement of the media, particularly public radio and television, since 1985.
The Mediterranean Leadership Summit was a high-level meeting co-organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and RAI - Radiotelevisione Italiana, as part of the MED Dialogues. The Summit was opened by EBU Director General Noel Curran. 
The chosen theme, “The Mediterranean: a meeting place”, reflects the region's fundamental vocation as a crossroads of civilisations. The Summit highlighted the importance of the media in promoting democratic values, intercultural exchange and peace-building.
The event was attended by representatives from 18 countries in the Mediterranean basin - from Europe, Africa and Asia - including Directors-General, Chief Executives and Presidents of the main public service broadcasters. Vatican Radio was also present, reflecting the broad and representative institutional and cultural participation in the Naples summit. The aim of the Summit is to strengthen cooperation between public service media in the Mediterranean area, share common strategies and contribute to the definition of priorities in a rapidly changing context.

11TH EDITION OF MED-DIALOGUES

A delegation from the "United States of the World" and the ‘Fondazione Mediterraneo’ participated in the 11th edition of MED-Dialogues in Naples.
The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, Prof. Michele Capasso, expressed his satisfaction that this edition took place in Naples, precisely on the occasion of the 2,500th anniversary of the city's foundation, thanking the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and ISPI for their political and institutional sensitivity and hoping that the next edition in 2026 will also take place in Naples.
On this occasion, with many of the numerous guests in attendance, President Capasso recalled the 40 years of activity of the Fondazione Mediterraneo - which will be celebrated on 10 December 2025 - and the more than 11,000 activities carried out over these decades, including those aimed at relaunching the role of Naples as a great capital capable of “thinking European” and “breathing Mediterranean”. Memorable events include the three Euromed Civil Forums held in 1995, 1997 - the latter attended by over 3,000 representatives from 43 countries and over 700 young people - and in 2003, as well as the 15 Euro-Mediterranean conferences, the last of which was held in 2014.

MEDITERRANEAN SMART CITIES CONFERENCE

The United States of the World and the Fondazione Mediterraneo participate in the conference "Mediterranean Smart Cities", organised by ICESCO.
Professor Massimo Pica Ciamarra, president of the International Scientific Committee, emphasises the Foundation's commitment since 1995, with the conference "From urban decay to wired cities", to the development of smart cities in the Mediterranean and around the world.

50TH ANNIVERSARY OF UNESCO IHP PROGRAM

In 2025, UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) marks its 50th anniversary as the first UN intergovernmental initiative devoted to water research, management, and education. Celebrating five decades of advancing hydrological science, shaping policy, and fostering innovation worldwide and in Arab Region.
Since 1995, the "United States of the World" and the "Fondazione Mediterraneo" have shared the IHP programme with UNESCO, organising important events in Italy and abroad.
UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo is organizing, as part of our long partnership with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in Egypt Several Session featuring high-level reflections, testimonials, and a retrospective on science, policy, water challenges, climate change resilience, regional and international cooperation on addressing water challenges, globally in in our region.
Looking Ahead, these sessions it will also contribute to a vision for the future, where we jointly address emerging challenges, deploy science diplomacy, and adopt inclusive approaches to water security.
