Casa del Maghreb Arabo (EN)

The Casa del MAGHREB ARABO is a place for dialogue in the heart of Naples and  it is open to all actors from civil society from Maghreb Arab countries. It carries out activities to promote the value of different cultures and knowledge by nurturing traditions, practices and customs so European and Maghreb Arabic peoples can grow closer to one another. Moreover, it facilitates cooperation between academic institutions and research centres so that knowledge can be continually updated and so that joint initiatives can be undertaken to overcome prejudice in addition to disseminating innovative thinking and scientific inventions.

Every year, the Casa del MAGHREB ARABO organizes the ARAB MAGHREB FORUM: a global event specially organized for the Maghreb Arab region, at which the cultural and environmental heritage and wealth of the Arab Maghreb countries of Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia will be presented and publicized, thanks to the contribution of institutional partners.

Each year, the forum focuses on a specific country.

 

 

On the occasion of the 6th International Colloquium on "The Arab World and Europe" - held in Tunis on 22 and 23 October 2020 - President Michele Capasso presented the video on Lampedusa entitled "VOICES OF MIGRANTS".
Appreciation from the participants who recognized the thirty-year commitment of the Fondazione Mediterraneo in favor of migrants.
On this occasion, President Michele Capasso underlined the role of Lampedusa, also affirmed with the awarding of the Mediterranean Institutions Award 2020

The participants in the 6th International Colloquium on "The Arab World and Europe" - gathered in Tunis - expressed their appreciation for the work carried out by the Fondazione Mediterraneo and celebrated the 30th anniversary of its establishment.
The professor. Mohamed Elaziz ben Achour - former director general of ALECSO and minister of culture of Tunisia - recalled the Foundation's commitment in favor of dialogue and peace which has translated into constant action of "fraternity", thanks to the commitment and the constant action of the president Michele Capasso.

President Michele Capasso participated in the 6th International Colloquium "The Arab World: Realities, Challenges and Perspectives" organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Political Academy Forum.
The professor. Capasso spoke at the fifth scientific session dedicated to "The Arab States in the concert of nations" with the report entitled "The Arab World and Europe" in which he underlined the importance of migrants as a "resource for Europe" and not as a "problem" hoping for a return to shared multiculturalism
.
Participants from various countries paid tribute to the Fondazione Mediterraneo and to president Capasso on the occasion of the Foundation's thirtieth anniversary.

During the workshops dedicated to the Sael region and to the transformations of Tunisia in the last 5 years (pluralism, political parties, democracy, distribution of power, etc.) President Capasso in the name of House of the Arab Maghreb underlined the need, as he has always explained since 2005, to refer to a general reference framework that is that of the "Greater Mediterranean": an area whose countries have gone through periods of conflict but also centuries of collaboration and cooperation.

President Michele Capasso - on the sidelines of the meeting of the Western Mediterranean Foreign Ministers (5 + 5) - had a cordial interview with French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault with whom - when he was the mayor of Nantes - initiatives for the Mediterranean and young people together with the Fondazione Mediterraneo.
Minister Ayrault shared Mr Capasso's recommendation on the need to facilitate cultural mobility for young people in the Mediterranean and reiterated his personal commitment to the Concluding Press Conference.

During the MED FORUM Alf of Marseille, the leader of the Italian network Michele Capasso coordinated the work on "migrants: A new narrative", aimed at urging a new attitude of the media towards migrants for a narrative of "positive".
Of notable interest is the presentation by Soren Bauer of the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMD).

A delegation from Fondazione Mediterraneo and the House of the Arab Maghreb joined to Second edition of “HUMAN RIGHTS WORLD FORUM” held in Marrakech, where there is one of the headquarters of Fondazione, based in University Cadi Ayyad.
After Brasil, the Forum has been hosted by Morocco in the aftermath of a long inclusive process.
Joined more than 5.000 participants coming from 94 Countries and gathered to discuss about principal issues and problematic concerning Human Rights and to the obstacles which are still existing in their safeguard and their application: from United Nations to international ONG, from associations to expert from international organs (among them there are also several Nobel Prizes) a huge mobilization had happened and will be remarkable in the safeguard of Human Rights and equality between man and woman.
Workshops, special events, auto organized meeting, mass media characterized an event which had seen 52 thematic forums, 17 special events, 13 internal activities, 13 training ateliers, 32 auto organized activities, 15 cultural events and 1 workshop about the Forum.
“Morocco still discloses to be a leader in the promotion of Human Rights – declared president Michele Capasso –and this event, thanks to the commitment of dear friend Driss El Yazami –it is an important moment will mark the international agenda of the next months, characterized by “Climate Conference” (Paris, 2015), by the Millennium aims and Beijing  + 20 for the equality between men and women and for women’s rights. For Morocco is an important occasion to settle itself as a qualified and active partner in the world debate on Human Rights.”

The Fondazione Mediterraneo, which was the first observer member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, took part in the work of - and contributed its 20 years’ experience in building peace and dialogue to - the 7th Plenary Session of PAM. Moreover, the idea for PAM began in Naples in the headquarters of the Fondazione itself.

President Michele Capasso met with the Prime Minister of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Fayez Al-Tarawneh, with whom he analyzed the Syrian situation and Jordanian initiatives to host Syrian refugees. President Capasso delivered the Prime Minister a copy of the Appeal for Syria.
