A delegation from the ‘United States of the World’ and the "Fondazione Medityerraneo" – led by Secretary-General Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari – attended the secular state funeral for Emma Bonino at the Campidoglio in Rome, held in the Sala della Protomoteca.
The ceremony was attended by the country’s highest authorities, including the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, as well as family members, political figures such as Romano Prodi, and members of the public.
The ceremony was held in a secular format, featuring speeches and tributes dedicated to her life and her countless political and civil struggles for human rights, women’s freedom, democracy and Europe.
The coffin had previously been laid in state at the Campidoglio, allowing institutions and those who loved her to pay their last respects to the historic Radical Party leader and former minister, who passed away on 11 September 2026 at the age of 78.
“With Emma, we have lost a sister,” said Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari, visibly moved, “who accompanied and supported us for over half a century in our struggles for human rights, for the defence of women and for the United States of Europe within the broader framework of the United States of the World.”
