The spreading of terrorism on a planetary scale, the stalemate of the peace-keeping process and the ecological risks impose concrete efforts to meet new challenges: political, cultural, economic, social and environmental ones.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo has been concerned with these subjects, since 1994, working for the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership (Union for the Mediterranean) and for the development of the relations between Europe and the Arab World through actions aiming at promoting dialogue between the different cultures. In order to strengthen relations and cooperation between Europe and the Arab World – especially at a moment when the global crisis and the increasing tensions in the Middle East risk to stop the dialogue started by social and institutional actors - it is indispensable to promote an organic reflection and to valorize the examples of good practices, so as to make the best use of the available resources. For these reasons the Fondazione Mediterraneo – together with the League of the Arab States and other institutional partners from European and Arab World Countries - has decided to establish the Maison des Alliances, whose primary aim is to promote, in the global scene, the neighbourhood among the Peoples of Europe, of the Mediterranean and of the Arab World by dissemination of knowledge and of centuries-old historical-cultural memories, in order to strengthen community and solidarity feelings, as well as raising awareness of shared values and interests. |

A delegation from the “United States of the World” and the “Fondazione Mediterraneo” took part in the key events of Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Madrid.
Secretary-General Michele Capasso summarised the highlights of the pastoral visit, stating:
“I was deeply moved because Spain is a country of great significance to us. As if in a film, I saw many friends who have supported the ‘United States of the World’ for 40 years: Cardinals Parolin and Artime, King Felipe VI, and Pope Leo XIV himself. I was struck by the calm power of his words, when, for example, he said: ‘… a just society defends every human life, the poor, peace, freedom…’. But I felt great emotion during the seven-minute standing ovation from the members of the Spanish Parliament following the speech by Pope Leo XIV, the first Pontiff to visit the Congress of Deputies, the seat of the country’s institutional, legal and democratic life. He calls for peace through the courage of negotiation, denouncing rearmament in Europe and the world: ‘True security stems from respect for international law’. He called for the defence of life and the family, as well as the protection of religious freedom. He asked for concrete responses to the migration crisis to ensure reception and integration.”
The visit was packed with many significant moments: from the meeting with the institutions to that with the Augustinians; from Holy Mass to the Vigil with young people; from the visit to Caritas to the meeting with the world of culture and art; from the Corpus Christi procession to the meeting at the Bernabéu Stadium with the diocesan community.

A delegation from the “United States of the World” and the “Fondazione Mediterraneo” took part in the “Global Peace Summit 2026”, held in Paris from 28 to 31 January 2026. The event brought together young leaders, diplomats and peace workers.
The event featured a special session hosted at UNESCO Headquarters and was organised by Global Peace Chain to discuss youth diplomacy, soft power and conflict resolution.
Secretary-General Michele Capasso highlighted the importance of the role of young people in diplomacy and conflict resolution, “taking on challenges vital to the future of humanity”.
“The aim of all of us committed to peace,” said Capasso, “is also to bridge the gap between young people and decision-making circles, offering them examples of good practice and an understanding of international institutions and political contexts.” Beyond the formal sessions, this important event at the start of a difficult year must give a central place to intercultural exchanges and international cooperation. The diversity of backgrounds, origins and experiences must, now more than ever, foster a rich and open dialogue, conducive to the creation of lasting bonds”.

Miguel Ángel Moratinos and his wife Dominique spent a few days at the “Maison des Alliances”.
Welcomed by Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari, the guests ‘breathed in’ the history of the last thirty years and found the testimonies of personalities who have had an impact on the process of dialogue and peace.
Particularly appreciated were the visits to the symbolic places of the city of Naples: from the San Carlo Theatre to the Posillipo hill, from the Old Town to the coast of Nisida.
The dedication reads: “La Maison des Alliances is a place where you can breathe history, art, creativity: a house that has hosted extraordinary personalities and events that have written the secret history of the last decades, in the Mediterranean and throughout the world”.

AlMalik - Director General of ICESCO (Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) - was a guest of the "Maison des Alliances", accompanied by his wife Dr. Yousra Bint Hussain Al-Jazairy and their daughter Lana AlMalik. Welcomed by Secretary-General Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari - Prof. Abdelhak Azzouzi was present - they visited the "Maison", expressing great appreciation for the unique site that has hosted personalities from various countries over the past thirty years in order to produce actions for peace and dialogue.

On the eve of the G20 in Rome, the Maison des Alliances is hosting multilateral meetings on the main themes at the center of the G20: climate change, pandemics, social injustice.
On this occasion, in the presence of various ambassadors - including the Tunisian Ambassador to Italy Moez Sinaoui - the Appeal for the United States of the World was re-proposed with the projection of the video celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the Fondazione Mediterraneo.

The participants of the 7th International Colloquium "GLOBALIZATION AND PANDEMIA" were guests at the Maison des Alliances. With the Tunisian Ambassador to Italy Moez Sinaoui the former Minister and Director General of ALECSO Mohamed-El Aziz Ben Achour with his wife Wassyla and the President of the Forum de l'Académie politique Hayet Doghri.
On this occasion, the guests expressed their appreciation for the work carried out in over thirty years by the "Maison des Alliances" for peace and dialogue, in the Mediterranean and in the world.
