On Tuesday 22 March 2022, at 4.30 p.m., at the premises of the Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Museo della Pace - MAMT, the International Conference "The World Water Day" was held on the occasion of the World Water Day.
On this occasion, the Foundation's report "Water and Climate Change" was presented, which aims to inform policy makers on how to improve the management of water resources and access to water and sanitation services, in order to overcome poverty and address social and economic inequalities.
World Water Day is celebrated on 22 March each year to remind United Nations Member States to strengthen their commitment to implement the recommendations established by the UN General Assembly and to promote concrete activities in their countries to safeguard water resources.
On the occasion of its thirtieth anniversary, the Fondazione Mediterraneo, which has always been a supporter of the United Nations water programmes, organized this Conference - in collaboration with UNESCO and the "Anna Lindh Federation Italy" - on the occasion of the World Water Day.

The Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Anna Lindh Federation support Senator Giuseppe Lumia and the world of volunteering that, once again, is giving its best to help the Ukrainian people in their dramatic daily life, while they are under the bombs, while they fight, while they cry for the unprecedented sufferings that war always brings.
The whole world has mobilised, including Europe and Italy of course, with an extraordinary commitment, full of humanity and concrete action for peace.
The story of Senator Lumia:
"We left Sicily with a special mission: to help the community of Odessa. It is a marvellous city, rich in history and also with deep ties with Italy. It overlooks the Black Sea and is suffering the terrible gunfire from the military ships deployed in front of the port. It is difficult and risky at this time to reach.
We undertook a very long journey. We left Palermo on Thursday afternoon, crossing all of Italy, Slovenia, Hungary and Romania to get as close as possible to this city, which is still populated, and which is running risks and experiencing unspeakable suffering.
We are loaded with medical supplies and food, selected on the basis of the requests made to us. One thing struck me most of all: the request for insulin. In just a few hours, we were able to collect a good quantity to get it to people who are in dire and vital need.
We have another goal: to open a safe humanitarian road to shift attention to this part of Ukraine, which has remained neglected until now.
We have an Italian presence that has remained in Odessa, in which the intelligent and courageous work of our diplomatic adviser stands out.
Those who know me know that it is not my custom to bring out the emotional and affective side of my character, but I assure you that there is a whirlwind of deep feelings, the kind that mark life, even for someone like me who knows how high the risk is for his commitment. And this is how the group of volunteers who set out on this humanitarian mission is experiencing it, in its own small way, as well as the group that generously and intelligently supported us in the preparations.
Yes, it is more than ever the moment of "we". In the world of mature volunteering, we think and act with this not always appreciated existential and social approach: to open up paths, to stimulate and anticipate the choral commitment, including that of the institutions and the international community.
You cannot imagine how much solidarity and willingness, in addition to that already activated by a thousand roads, has been set in motion in these hours. Odessa deserves it. All Ukrainian cities and communities deserve it. This also applies to the other wars, let us never forget, of which there are seventy and which are often left to fester in indifference".

The Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Anna Lindh Italia Federation support Alis and the first edition of "LET EXPO - LOGISTIC ECO TRANSPORT TRADE SHOW".
205 exhibitors, over 50,000 visitors, more than 1000 students, 100 moments of confrontation, 250 speakers.
"This is an important occasion, said President Michele Capasso, because logistics does not only transport goods: cultures, knowledge, freedom and democracy travel with goods. It is estimated that transport in the Mediterranean could double in the next few years. We must seize this opportunity not only to strengthen economic, but above all cultural, social and human exchanges".

The Fondazione Mediterraneo with its "Euromedcities" section and the Anna Lindh Italy Federation with many of their respective members participated in the event for peace 'Cities stand with Ukraine' organised by Eurocities in Florence in Piazza Santa Croce, crowded with flags of peace and Ukraine.
A video with the recently deceased President of the European Parliament David Sassoli talking about Europe and peace, preceded by 17 bells, one for each day of the war in Ukraine, ringing from the basilica of Santa Croce opened the event.
About 20,000 people were in the square.
In his speech, delivered in 2019 in Florence on the occasion of the extraordinary city council meeting on "The legacy of Giorgio La Pira in today's Europe", Sassoli stressed: "When we have reached the end of the European construction, because we are still inside a building site and we have to send it on, we have to write a nice sign 'Work in progress' on it; when at the end the European construction will be finished and many walls will have collapsed and so much nationalist spirit will vanish to bring out how beautiful it is to feel Italian, but without this nationalist spirit that makes you be separate and different and divided from others, what will there be at the end? Europe will be our cities," he added, "and Florence will have an advantage because it has had a wealth of experience and knowledge. And it will know where to take the world and help it to grow. And to live in peace".
"This war was not started by us, this is the cynical and cruel invasion by Russia, this is the war against the Ukrainian people". This was stated by Volodymyr Zelenskyj, President of Ukraine, speaking via video link to the Eurocities event in Florence. "I greet all the friends of Ukraine, of Europe all friends of freedom I know that today you are that over 100 thousand in different squares of different cities we Ukrainians are grateful". Russian armed forces have surrounded Ukrainian cities and want to destroy them. They bomb 24 hours a day, they bomb clinics, churches, squares, which are like yours," Zelensky added. "This war is not only against Ukrainians but against the values that unite us, against our way of life" in the West. "Tell your politicians to close the skies of Ukraine", "from rockets, from Russian planes, from missiles": this is the strong appeal of the president of Ukraine, to the square in Florence. Thunderous and long applause broke out in Piazza Santa Croce as the President of Ukraine spoke from Kiev. The connection had two brief interruptions but was quickly restored. "We must stand together in the European Community, it is important for Ukraine," he said.
