A delegation from the "United States of the World", the "Fondazione Mediterraneo" and the "Kimiyya" network participated in the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP 30): the largest global event for discussions and negotiations on climate change, held in Belém, Pará, from 10 to 21 November 2025.
The chosen city, in the heart of the Amazon, provided the world with a unique opportunity to discuss climate solutions, strengthen multilateralism and promote consensus on global goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Italy is taking action, in line with the Paris Agreement, by supporting cross-sectoral solutions and building resilient partnerships, with the aim of contributing to the management of the ever-increasing risks associated with climate change.
Currently, there are 198 Parties (197 countries plus the European Union) to the Convention.
A week of consultations between the Brazilian presidency and other countries at COP 30 in Belém, Brazil, has failed to make any progress in overcoming the still conflicting positions on three issues: climate ambition, finance and trade barriers.
"The stakes are too high to allow procedural tactics or deadlocked discussions to hinder progress", warned COP 30 President André Corrêa do Lago, a Brazilian diplomat, acknowledging the limited progress made since Monday. Do Lago announced the publication of a “note” that will simply summarise each country's position, with the aim of “structuring our talks”: a sort of to-do list for ministers arriving in Belém on Monday for the final five days of talks.
Countries will “decide how to proceed”, the diplomat said.
"The planet, said Secretary General Michele Capasso, ’is once again being sacrificed for the economic interests of the great powers: the cry of alarm here in the Amazon to stop the destruction of the earth has been in vain".
