THE FOUNDATION AND THE FEDERATION STRING AROUND THE VICTIMS OF THE PONT MORANDI

On the day of the funeral the Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Federation is gathered around the victims of the Morandi Bridge and the city of Genoa that since 1991 has been at the side of the Foundation in many activities for dialogue and peace.
In Genoa, after what was the most serious post-war tragedy, nothing will be as before. Perhaps it is also for this reason that during the funeral of the state many were the Genoese who felt compelled to speak and to appeal to justice.
It was a sacred rite with inevitably profane moments. The overwhelming majority of applause went to the firefighters who crowded the structure with their out-of-service teams - some veterans from 27-hour shifts in the rubble - and the association and civil defense volunteers. In the meantime, three hundred of them continued to dig the collapsed stralls on the shore and around the stumps.
The Head of State Mattarella was the institutional figure greeted with more warmth and affection by the thousands of Genoese who from 8 in the morning queued to enter the pavilion of the Fair. The Genoese who felt compelled to be there were thousands. Many more than those who followed the ceremony in front of two screens, a real crowd that surrounded De Ferrari, the fountain square, the point where Genoa meets every time there is to celebrate or cry.
The words of Bagnasco during the homily were measured and common sense.
At the end of the ceremony with a Catholic ceremony, the microphone was offered to the imams of the very large Arab community of Genoa. One prayed by reciting a few verses of the "Salaam Alaikum" (there were several Muslim victims): the second, Salah Hussein, chose touching words that received a burst of applause ... "We are here together under one God to gather around the victims and families. A bridge has fallen ... a bridge should never fall because it unites and Genoa has always united in its history. We pray for Genoa, the Superb, which will once again stand up ... Zena in Arabic means the beautiful ".
In Genoa the Arab community is one of the oldest, since 1500, as the Armenian: the zeneixe dialect boasts many words in Arabic, almost untranslatable.

The church 'Madonna della Provvidenza-Don Orione' has been filled with the function for the sister of the magistrate killed in the massacre in Via D'Amelio, who died on August 15th at the age of 73 after a long illness.
So many ordinary people, but also representatives of institutions and the political world arrived for the final farewell.
Accompanied by a very long applause the message that Claudio, son of Rita, gave to all those who attended the funeral: "Uncle Paolo always said that each of us has to do something, each for what he can and for what he knows." Mom knew how to love and respect people, she taught us how to do it, everyone who can and for what I'm going to ask you out of here to take the same commitment, each for what you can and everyone for what you know ".

AN “ABBRACCIO” TO ANTONIO, MATTEO, GERARDO AND GIOVANNI.

"My thoughts go today to Antonio Stanzione, Matteo Bertonati, Gerardo Esposito and Giovanni Battiloro: the 4 young people of Torre del Greco - the city where I was born - who died from the collapse of the Morandi bridge in Genoa.
To the excruciating pain and to the closeness with the Prayer to the families must be added a reflection on the disasters that our humanity makes every moment, in every place and in all the disciplines.
Only the profound assumption of a new ethics based not on profit but on the quadrinomial COMPETENCE - RESPONSIBILITY - PASSION - SOLIDARITY can avoid the repetition of these tragedies and nourish in young people a new hope able to make them HAPPINESS OF POSITIVE! ".
These are the words of President Capasso on the occasion of the funeral of the young victims of the Morandi bridge coming from Torre del Greco.

THE FONDAZIONE SUPPORTS THE 7th WORLD PEACE FORUM ON THE INTERRELIGIOUS DIALOGUE AND PRESENTS THE UNITED STATES OF THE WORLD

The 7th World Peace Forum will be organized in cooperation with the Office of Presidential Special Envoy for Interfaith and Inter-Civilizational Dialogue and Cooperation of Republic of Indonesia and bears a great theme namely “The Middle Path for the New World Civiliziation”, to respond the current situation where crisis of civilization is taking place in many parts of the world. Such crisis of civilization is rooted at the dynamic world system that put human interest as the solely purpose of human being to become an unfortunate object of human exploitation. This situation has created many problems such as climate change, food insecurity, energy scarcity, natural disasters, war, and economic as well as financial crisis. This also encouraged the emergence of secularism, and extremism, that become world-dominated ideology and worse, at the same time the world is also experiencing disorder from global to local, from ethnic conflicts to wars. Undoubtedly, our world needs a new approach to promote world peace. In this juncture, this year’s Forum will discuss that new approach namely the Middle Path.
This was the main theme of the 7th World Peace Forum on interreligious dialogue, held in Jakarta from August 14 to 16, in which 43 countries participated with religious leaders, academics and thinkers, scholars and activists.
The Foundation supports this initiative, also in the life of the World Peace Forum scheduled in Naples in July 2019, which was presented on this occasion together with the United States of the World, whose "Standard Bearers" titles were awarded to the participants at the meeting.
