LIBRARY OF PEACE

The "Library of Peace" is one of the priority actions of the Fondazione Mediterraneo defined in the Statute since its establishment.
The goal is to promote dialogue and mutual respect in the Euro-Mediterranean region and in the world by promoting the reading of texts in various languages ​​and, in particular, in the Arabic language.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo signed in 2003 a permanent agreement with the “Bibliotecha Alexandrina” and the “Library of Algiers” and collaboration protocols with various international institutions, such as the “Al-Babtain Foundation” for the promotion and dissemination of Arabic poetry.
The headquarters of the "Library of Peace" - named after St. John Paul II - is located on the ground, mezzanine, fourth and fifth floors of the former “Grand Hotel de Londres”, where the Fondazione Mediterraneo with the Museum of Oeace - MAMT is located.
Equipped with about 20,000 volumes in various languages, the "Library of Peace" (BIPA) dedicates a section to children with books for children: from the myth of Giufà and the Thousand and One Nights to fairy tales that find unanimous consent and diffusion in various countries.
The "Library of Peace" is open for free to all on the following days:

  • Monday: from 10 to 13am and from 16 to 18pm.
  • Wednesday: from 10 to 13am and from 16 to 18pm.
  • Friday: from 10 to 13am and from 16 to 18pm.

The students of the various courses at the Istituto Musicale "Margherita di Savoia" in Naples - coordinated among others by Prof. Valentina Crimaldi - performed in the Museum's Peace Library in a beautiful concert dedicated to Ukraine entitled "NEVER AGAIN GUNS...INSTRUMENTS IN MUSIC AGAINST ALL WAR".
Before the concert, the Secretary General of the United States of the World Prof. Michele Capasso made an appeal to the young people by connecting with the city of Odessa and recommending that they act with the three "A's": Listening, Welcoming, Love.
The students were particularly attentive to the original video with the appeal to young people for the "United States of the World" made by Gustavo Rol in January 1987, which Prof. Capasso showed before the concert.
Immediately afterwards, poems by Alda Merini, Izet Sarajlic' and other poets from the Peace Library were read out.

Three hundred students from various schools came to the Peace Library at the "United States of the World" and the Peace Museum to celebrate Liberation Day on 25 April 2022.
In connection with Acerra, the official ceremony in the presence of President Sergio Mattarella was broadcast live on large video walls.
Immediately afterwards, the main articles of the Italian Constitution were read out.

Great participation and emotion for the Holy Mass celebrated in the rooms on the ground floor of the Museum of Peace - MAMT where the Salesian World Oratory, the Chapel with the relics of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, the Chapel dedicated to Padre Pio of Pietrelcina are hosted the Chapel dedicated to Pope John Paul II with the "Library of Peace" which bears his name.
A highly significant choice - said members of the Museum's International Executive Committee - because with the help of multimedia systems it is possible to bring the life of these great personalities of Catholicism among the people, in the central Piazza Municipio.
Participants include the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians from various parts of the world.

The publisher Jean Luc Umberto Bertoni donated to the Museum of Peace - MAMT and to the "Biblioteca della pace" some volumes of poetry and fiction published by the Bertoni publishing house, expressing appreciation for the work carried out by the Fondazione Mediterraneo and by the President Michele Capasso.
