Totem for Peace

The "Totem for Peace" is a trademark duly filed in accordance with the regulations. Therefore, any initiatives undertaken by third parties using that trademark or the word "Totem for Peace" in any context and for whatever purpose, it integrates to all intents and purposes the case of trademark infringement.

The Fondazione Mediterraneo – an international non-profit Organisation of Social Utility (Onlus) created in 1994 by Michele Capasso with specialists and internationally recognised scholars on the Euro-Mediterranean area, politicians of international organisations and diplomats involved in peace-building – realised important initiatives in favour of peace and shared development: among these, the creation in Naples of the “Maison de la Paix – Casa Universale delle Culture”. Many Countries and international organisations such as the United Nations, the Parliamentary Assembly of the  Mediterranean, the League of Arab States, the International Organisation for Migrations, the “Anna Lindh” Euro-Mediterranean Foundation joined this project.

The “Totem for Peace”, artwork by the Italian sculptor Mario Molinari, is the symbol of the “Maison de la Paix – Casa Universale delle Culture” and it represents Peace in the World and, especially, in the Greater Mediterranean: the aim of the Fondazione Mediterraneo is to spread this universal symbol to constitute the network of the “Cities for Peace in the World”.

The sculptor Mario Molinari was a famous artist, sensitive to peace and dialogue among cultures, as it is witnessed in his works and life.

The cultural project "Totem for Peace" is carried out around the world by Michele Capasso: since 1990 he voted his life to the creation of a dialogue as an instrument for the resolution of conflicts, combining his internationally experience in social and intercultural fields with his professional carreer as architect and engineer.


The sail represents the travel, the sea. Our Sea which has been the cradle of civilisation, not only theatre of clashes and battles among peoples but also theatre of exchanges of goods and knowledge. A sea, celebrated in the myth, where Ulysses got lost, wandering in his desperate research of a way back. The sail tainted in red, at dawn and sunset, at leaving and return, following the constant rhythm of the Universe.

On the occasion of the Celebration of San Giovanni Bosco, took place, at the oratory of the Santa Maria Mazzarello Institute in Torre Annunziata, the inauguration of the work "Totem della Pace" by the Molinari sculptor. After the greetings of the director of the institute Suor Marianna,of the southern vice-director SuorCarlaandof the person in charge of the oratory Sister Angela, have participated the president of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso, the person in charge of the "Totem della Pace" project Pia Molinari, the mayor of Torre Annuziata Enzo Ascione and the priests Don Franco and Don Mario. In particular, President Capasso underlined the importance of the "Hands of Peace" reproduced by the boys and girls of the Oratory: a COMMITMENT to be builders of peace that since childhood must involve children so that they grow up with a totality of values ​​capable of countering the adversities and the evil of life.

Il presidente Michele Capasso e Pia Molinari hanno svolto un ultimo sopralluogo per verificare gli ultimi dettagli dell’opera “Totem della Pace” posta come riqualificazione del cortile dell’oratorio delle FMA “Madre Mazzarello” di Torre Annunziata.
Accolti da Suor Marianna e Suor Angela hanno avuto la possibilità di posizionare il “Totem della Pace” di Mario Molinari e di definire i criteri di intervento degli scugnizzi “Portatori di Pace” sui pannelli laterali dell’opera stessa.

Il “Totem della Pace” di Molinari simbolo dei rifugiati e dei diritti umani. Insieme all’”Euromed Award”, al vincitore dell’edizione 2017 - l’associazione “Banda internazionale” - è stato consegnato un esemplare del “Totem della Pace”, che rappresenta i migranti di tutto il mondo.
Il presidente Capasso ha ricordato l’opera monumentale presente nel porto di Napoli ed inaugurata il 21 marzo 2015 con la visita di Papa Francesco.
Grande festa al vincitore da parte dei capofila delle reti nazionali della FAL di Spagna, Francia, Mauritania ed altri paesi, della prof. Caterina Arcidiacono e di Giusy Nicolini (già sindaco di Lampedusa e membro della giuria dell’Euromed Award).

Apostolos Katsifaras, President of the Dytiki Ellada Region and President of the CPMR- Intermediterranean Commission, welcomed the proposal by President Michele Capasso and members of the Scientific Committee of the Museum of Peace - MAMT to build a branch office of the Museum in Patras and Olympia.
Katsifaras expressed beautiful words about the Museum, defining it as "A unique place, a set of emotions that nourish the different identities of the Mediterranean" and assured its maximum willingness to ensure that his region can enjoy this unique opportunity by also realizing the monumental work of the "Totem of Peace" by sculptor Mario Molinari: the proposed site is the port of Patras.
