TOTEM FOR PEACE

On the 29th of September 2010 at 12.00 at the Rotonda Santa Lucia in Pescasseroli the Totem for Peace, the work by the sculptor Mario Molinari that the Fondazione Mediterraneo is spreading all over the world establishing the “Cities for Peace” network, was unveiled. 

The monumental work was inaugurated in the heart of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise, at the presence of delegates from European Countries participating at Europarc 2010.

The Totem in Pescasseroli was the last monumental work realized in the National Parks of Cilento, Vesuvio and Abruzzo Lazio and Molise.

Guest speakers:

• the mayor of Pescasseroli Nunzio Finamore;
• the President of the Park Giuseppe Rossi and the Director Vittorio Ducoli;
• the President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso with the responsible for the institutional relations Claudio Azzolini and more institutional members;
• M.P. Leonzio Borea, Head of the National Community Service Unit;
• the mayor of Ispica Piero Rustico;
• the Coordinator of the “Towns for Peace in the World” Michele Voria;
• Mayors of the municipalities of the Vesuvio, Cilento and Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise Park;
• Delegations of citizens from Santa Maria di Castellabate, Acciaroli and other areas of Cilento;
• MPs and representatives from national and international institutions;
• Representatives from the Trade Unions and the civil society.

The President of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, Giuseppe Rossi stated: “The TOTEM FOR PEACE will be the Park real symbol of the great moral value of peace as universal heritage for the protected natural areas”.
