THE UNITED STATES OF THE WORLD

The MEDITERRANEAN FOUNDATION, since its creation in 1990 immediately after the fall of the Berlin Wall, has taken as one of its main objectives the establishment of the "UNITED STATES OF THE WORLD": from an intuition of Gustavo Rol.
The activities carried out over the last three decades by the Foundation - particularly in the area of the "Greater Mediterranean" - bear witness to a constant and concrete action that, precisely in these difficult times of war and pandemic, is an anchor of salvation to strengthen the spirit of peace and cooperation between peoples.
The adhesions of men and women, organisations and institutions from various countries contribute to supporting the institutional initiative by pursuing concrete objectives and effective means for the defence of the planet, respect for the fundamental rights of the human person, the coexistence of philosophies, faiths and religions, the fair distribution of goods and resources, the union of science and politics for the salvation of humanity and against all wars.

A delegation from the “United States of the World” and the “Fondazione Mediterraneo” – led by Senator Giuseppe Lumia and Jacopo Molinari – took part in the “March for Europe” on Europe Day.
“Under the slogan ‘We are here’, it was a joy to see so many young people motivated by the ideals of the ‘United States of Europe’,” said Secretary-General Michele Capasso, who has long been committed to the establishment of the “United States of Europe” within the framework of the “United States of the World”.
In his speech, Senator Lumia emphasised the imperative of achieving the establishment of the “United States of Europe”, stressing that “When there is the will and the motivation, we need people to make the dream a reality. And this is what is happening today. Still, few- far too few - know that 9 May is Europe Day. Indeed, it is Europe Day: it coincides with the first, famous speech on European unity delivered officially in Paris by the then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman in 1950, the declaration that marked the start of the EU’s integration process. Although the European institutions mark the occasion with the appropriate celebrations, the general public, both in Italy and in the other Member States, is not really aware of this anniversary. We want a Europe with a real government that makes decisions; we want a Europe with a real Parliament that makes laws.”

The Global Sumud Flotilla, an international mission to deliver aid to Gaza, stopped off in Naples with around 18–20 vessels moored at Mergellina, outside the headquarters of the “United States of the World” and the “Mediterranean Foundation”.
The activists, part of the “Freedom Flotilla Coalition”, stopped in the Campania capital before continuing on to Calabria and the eastern Mediterranean to challenge the naval blockade.
Coming from Marseille, the “Thousand Madeleines to Gaza” mission aims to deliver humanitarian aid, with crews comprising activists, doctors and nurses, supported by a local “land fleet”.
The fleet’s presence sparked rallies and demonstrations of support in the centre of Naples, with hundreds of people gathering in Piazza del Plebiscito and Piazza Sannazaro.
“The stopover was one of the main Italian ports of call before the Mediterranean crossing, confirming Naples as a central hub for humanitarian and protest initiatives in support of Gaza,” said Secretary-General Michele Capasso, on a solidarity visit to the fleet members, to whom he described the aid initiatives launched since 2023 by the United States of the World for the people of Gaza.
