Michele Capasso retraces his experience as “architect of dialogue” at the head of the Fondazione Mediterraneo using the means of the description of a day passed in a hospital. It is a mix of sensations, emotions, reflections, experiences, memories and testimony in which there are set pages of a “Logbook” which the author has published over the years in newspapers and periodicals in the Euromediterranean countries.

It is also the pathway of the author’s private life: engineer, painter, photographer, but more and more an architect of peace and culture in the Euromediterranean scene over the last twenty years. It is the tale of a singularly human experience, in a political and historical moment when the Mediterranean takes on, at the turn of the century, a strategic importance for peace and shared development.

Fratricidal wars, forced migrations, ecological disasters, the absence of democracy and corruption are some of the causes which attack civil society. With these and others Michele Capasso acts by inviting people not to give up, as testified in the storied told in this book with a simple and efficient style: it is a mixture of stories and reports, where everything is rigorously true and corroborated in documents and images. The diary follows the day as a setting for 18 episodes in which the writing comes out of the main characters: the rubbish, the ambulance, the dog, the brothers of Gaza, the fat man, the funeral, the scalpel, the nurses, the probe, the parking attendant, the helicopter, the caress, the clandestine worker, the archive, the prostheses, the lawyer, the rainbow, the last kiss.

The whole sense of the narration is to show, in the encounters of the global society, the ancient knowledge that human beings from the area of the Mediterranean have developed, in the connections with the land, its inhabitants and the sea, confronting adversities of the day without losing faith in tomorrow.

Felippo Sgruttendio de Scafato. Edizioni Magma - FLM Napoli ( it.) f.to 17x24 - pp. 456 ISBN 88-8127-030-7

The Tiorba a taccone de Felippo Sgruttendio de Scafato is the title of a collection of sonnets and songs in the Neapolitan dialect that was published for the first time, while the author was alive, in 1646. As soon as the theorbo is said lutes, that the taccone is the plectrum, and that Felippo Sgruttendio de Scafato is a pseudonym, it should be emphasized that this songbook represents a parody of Petrarchism and a revaluation of the vernacular poetry considered low-level during the Spanish rule in Naples. Several themes are addressed: In life and in death of Cecca, love, the beauty of women, dialogue with academics, life in the popular districts of Naples, music, popular dance. The analogies, in an ironic, if not satirical, key with the Petrarchian songbook are evident. However, what matters most is the language, which, not improvised, has the freshness and lightness of extemporaneousness, which lets the culture shine through without transmitting weight, indeed often giving the reader the relief of laughter.

Mario Schioppa - Prefazione di Ermanno Corsi - Cronaca di un amore molesto ai tempi del colera - Libreria Mario Guida Editore (ed. it.) f.to 17x24 – pp. 76

Like in a short novel, or rather in a black and white film, Giacomo Leopardi's stay in Naples. The poet of melancholy stayed in the Neapolitan city for about four years, from the day he arrived there together with Antonio Ranieri: October 2, 1833, until June 14, 1837, the day he left this earthly life, after years of immense suffering that they were exhausted in body and spirit.

Angelo Pesce – Giuseppe Rolandi. Edizioni Magma – FLM II ed. Napoli 2000 ( It. ) format. 24 x 33 - pp. 216, pictures in colour ISBN 88-8127-020-X
March 7th 1944. Almost everybody left the small village of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, disheartened by that image of lava coming down from the volcano and covering their houses and their memories. Many of them, proud of their own land, deeply attached to their roots, refused to see their village wiped out. That is how in a part of the community consciousness arouse and a town committee was set up. This book, written by two outstanding scholars, recalls, through pictures and words of extraordinary eloquence, the drama experienced at the time of the eruption and the following reconstruction, arising from a feeling of pride of the people of that place.

AA.VV. ,Magma Editions- Fondazione Laboratorio Mediterraneo, Naples march 2004; format 21x21 (en./it.), pp.121;ISBN 88-8127-034-X (it./ing)

It is positive that, despite difficulties, existing strucures for cinema conservation and dissemination have been further consolidated, and that new archives are being set up (such as the Lebanese Film Archives).

For quite some time now, many other film archives have been involved in film preservation: the Film Library of Morocco, which is part of the Moroccan Film Centre; the Film Library of Algeria, one of the oldest cinema institutions in the Arab world; the Egyptian National Film Archive, a film library established within the Egyptian National Film Centre.
The collection of data and information found in this volume represents an important effort to document the activities of Film Archives in the Arab-mediterranean world; for this reason, the operators in this sector certainly will appreciate this overview presenting how this important structures work, while pursuing the goal of preserving cinema heritage from Arab countries, and keeping it alive.
