Mediterranean Award - Euromed Award (EN)

The award ceremony for the winners of the 15th edition of the Mare Nostrum International Journalism Awards, organised by Grimaldi Magazine Mare Nostrum and sponsored by the National Order of Journalists, was held at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio in Naples. The ceremony was presented by host Massimo Giletti and was attended by personalities from the institutional, information and shipping worlds.
The international jury of the Prize, chaired by journalist Bruno Vespa and composed of important personalities from the world of culture and journalism - including the Secretary General of the United States of the World Prof. Michele Capasso - decreed the following winners:

  • Sandro Neri for the article 'Motorways of the Sea Italy and Greece are even closer' published in “Quotidiano Nazionale”;
  • Yosr Hazgui for the article “Tunisie-Pollution Plastique en Méditerranée: Un massacre sous la mer” (“Tunisia-Plastic Pollution in the Mediterranean: a massacre under the sea”), published in “La Presse de Tunisie”.
  • Alessandro De Rossi and Federica Botta  for the online documentary series “Luna sul Mare”;
  • The Spanish journalists Ada Nuño, Álvaro Hermida, Fran Sánchez Becerril, co-authors of the article “Todo empezó con los fenicios: hacia dónde va el transporte marítimo por el Mediterráneo” (“Everything started with the Phoenicians: towards which direction maritime transport in the Mediterranean goes") published in “El Confidencial”;
  • Francesco Ferrari for the article "Supporting maritime transport to save the economy and the environment: the investments to make (and the mistakes not to make)" published in “Il Secolo XIX”.

The special prize "Cavaliere del Lavoro Guido Grimaldi", established by the Grimaldi family in memory of the founder of the Grimaldi Group, was awarded to journalist Nigel Lowry, Correspondent from Athens for “Lloyd’s List”.

The Fondazione Mediterraneo celebrated the "Day of legality and commitment" with the students of the Adelaide Ristori Institute.
President Capasso underlined the importance of legality as an essential pillar of life and illustrated to the students the actions that the Foundation and the Peace Museum promote for memory, for commitment, for legality.

The juries made up of members of the 42 National Networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation awarded the "Euromed Award 2017" to the association "INTERNATIONAL BAND", an organisation based in Germany.
The ceremony was held in Tallinn (Estonia) at the “Estonian Film Museum “ with the support of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Award was given by the Executive Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation, Hatem Atallah, and the President of the Mediterranean Foundation, Michele Capasso. The Award is representative of the action of the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Fondazione Mediterraneo in promoting an alternative to extremism and terrorism in the societies of the North and South of the Mediterranean.
During the ceremony, the President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo recalled the importance of the commitment to migrants and gave to the winners the work of Mario Molinari “TOTEM OF PEACE”.
This year's Euromed Award recognized the best initiatives aimed at encouraging refugees to be welcome as actors for intercultural dialogue.
The Jury of the prize is composed of representatives of ALF networks and famous personalities in the field of migration: among them Giusy Nicolini, former mayor of Lampedusa and UNESCO Peace Prize.
Launched in 2006 by the Fondazione Mediterraneo as part of the "Mediterranean Award", the Euro-Med Dialogue Award has reached its eleventh edition. Organizations working in the cultural and artistic field have been rewarded in the past, as well as initiatives that address the challenges of interculturality by pathways such as peaceful conflict resolution and sustainable environment. Among the people who received the Prize, Father Paolo Dall'Oglio of the Syrian Monastery Mar Musa, winner of the first Anna Lindh Euro-Med Award, kidnapped in Syria since 2013 and whose murder is announced these days: President Capasso has turned a thought for his great friend.
On this occasion, the 10 years of the Prize were retraced and its conception was remembered during the "Euromed Civil Forum" in Naples.

The Euromed Award Jury for Dialogue between Cultures met in Tallinn. The composition of the Jury: Fondazione Mediterraneo, Anna Lindh Foundation, Austria, Jordan and then GiusyNicolini (Italy), RistoVeltheim (Finland) and Capoeira (Germany).
On this occasion, the winner for the 2017 edition was selected from the final trio: the association "Banda Internazionale".
