2008

At the Plenary Session of the  Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), convening  at the seat of the Regional Assembly of Sicily in the historical Palazzo dei Normanni in Palermo, the outgoing PAM President, Abdelwahed Radi, awarded the PAM Prize to the Fondazione Mediterraneo. President Radi was recently elected as the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the international organization  that unites parliaments from all over the world.

The inscription reads, “On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, for its commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue throughout the Mediterranean and for its support towards the establishment and activities of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean”.

President Radi made the following remarks: “This [prize] is made in recognition of Michele Capasso’s having dedicated his life to building prosperity and democracy in the Mediterranean basis. He is a true soldier working relentlessly to achieve the goal of bringing peoples, civilizations and cultures closer together. This prize is only a small token compared to the enormous contribution made by Michele and he deserves much greater recognition for the quality and quantity of his action. It is therefore our wish that such recognition will soon be forthcoming”.

Congratulations were also received from delegations of various countries, including  from Michel Vauzelle, President of the PACA Region and the Jordanian President of PAM, Fayez Tarawneh.
